Klang
Town Square - Urban Design
|
A review of the structure plan of the Klang Town. Proposal
includes analysis of existing traffic circulation, pedestrian
paths, parking facilities, landscape planting and street furniture
of the Town Centre. The project is appointed by Majlis Perbandaran
Klang (MPK) to carry out designs to improve the streetscape
and pedestrian amenities, and also to provide a link from
the post office areas to the Jalan Kampar areas. The design
sought to reinforce the existing pedestrian facilities at
the bus station and post office areas. The final master plan
and detailed design incorporates a clock tower, sunken plaza,
water feature, seating and street furnitures treatment.

The
aim is to achieve a modern plaza concept whilst incorporating
a local architectural style. It is designed to complement
the nearby shopping centres, hotels and commercial areas,
by way of a pedestrian walkway linking these areas. The plaza
is provided with a water arena with seating areas, exhibition
and multi-purpose areas, children’s playground, and car parking
areas for tourist coaches, motorcycles and motor cars. The
coach and motorcycle parking areas have been set aside for
a possible future development site.

Water
Plaza
The main focal point of the Mahkota Square Water Plaza is
the Sunken Plaza. It incorporates seating areas with a central
circular stage for singing or cultural performances. The Sunken
Plaza is surrounded with three fountains and cascading pools.
A water curtain acts as a focal point viewing from the entrance
archway.
The fountains consist of a series of sprays, jumping and bubble
jets. The jumping fountains provide vitality and life to this
recreational plaza. In the evening, the water curtain with
its fine mist sprays will create a rainbow, an ideal setting
for photograpy. Landscaping lighting in and around the water
plaza lures tired shoppers and visitors to the area.
